STUDIES AND CAREER
I was born in Thessaloniki on 20.11.1980. I graduated from the 2nd Lyceum of the American College 'Anatolia' of Thessaloniki in 1998 with a general grade of 'Excellent'. In 1999, I enrolled in the Medical School of the University of Thessaloniki, from which I graduated in 2005 with a general grade of 'Very Good'.
I served my military service from November 2005 to November 2006 as a soldier doctor. I started my compulsory rural service with a three-month compulsory training in the pathological, surgical, and cardiological clinics of the General Hospital of Chalkidiki from 4/7 to 3/10 of 2007, and then as a rural doctor (compulsory rural service) at the Kassandreia Health Center from 4-30/10/2007.
In November 2007, I started my specialization in surgery at the D' University Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at the General Hospital of Thessaloniki 'G. Papanikolaou'. After exams under the auspices of the Health Directorate of the Central Macedonia Region, I was awarded the license to practice medical specialty surgery in March 2014.
In the summer of 2014, I served as a doctor in a camp, and then I completed my compulsory rural service as a rural doctor (compulsory rural service) at the Peripheral Medical Office of Kallirachi, Thasos, from 23/10/2014 to 15/06/2015.
From 16/06/2015 to 19/10/2015, I served with a secondment at the B' Surgical Clinic of the General Hospital of Kavala, where I participated as a specialist surgeon in the clinical work of the Clinic with the realization of many surgical operations of all severity, both from the daily surgical program and from the hospital's emergency program.
I was appointed as a University Scholar of Surgery at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on 1.11.2015, and since then, I have been participating in all clinical and nursing activities of the D' Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at the Hospital 'G. Papanikolaou', as well as in the organization and operation of the above clinic.
My specialization is approximately 9 months in advanced laparoscopic surgery, in advanced oncological surgery of the digestive system, and in emergency surgery at the University Hospitals of Vienna in Austria, Milan in Italy, Strasbourg in France, Heidelberg in Germany, and at University Hospitals and Centers of Excellence in New York and Boston, USA. I have also participated in 23 international and 51 Greek postgraduate programs, 33 international and 22 Greek seminars, and in 14 international and 106 Greek conferences.
In November 2006, I enrolled in the postgraduate program of specialization 'Medical Research Methodology' of the Department of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from which I graduated in December 2008 with a grade of 'Excellent'.
In 2009, the topic of my doctoral dissertation was announced by the Department of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, entitled: 'The effect of combined administration of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids on ulcerative colitis. Experimental study in mice'. I completed my doctoral dissertation in the Surgical Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in June 2014 with a grade of 'Excellent with Distinction' and was awarded the title of Doctor in November 2014, where I was ranked first and took the oath.
I followed the 2nd Postgraduate Diploma of Specialization in 'Surgery of the Liver-Bile Ducts-Pancreas' at the Department of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace from November 2014 to June 2016, where I graduated with a first rank.
In parallel, from 2007 to the present, I have also been participating in the scientific, research, writing, and teaching work of the D' Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, both in the preparation of numerous research papers and as a teacher of surgery to students of the 6th, 7th, 11th, and 12th semester from the amphitheater and in the halls. My teaching experience dates back to September 2000 as an assistant to the Laboratory of Descriptive Anatomy of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and continued at every stage of my scientific career, both within and outside the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2017, I was awarded the title of Trainer of the Greek Surgical Society. I have been a speaker or lecturer 41 times in international conferences or seminars and a speaker or lecturer or commentator 83 times in Greek conferences or seminars. I have also been the president of the organizing-scientific committees of 2 international and 3 Greek conferences and a member of the organizing-scientific committees of 14 Greek and 8 international conferences, and president/coordinator in 8 sessions of Greek conferences.
I have received a total of 7 scholarships after evaluation by scientific societies, as well as 5 awards in 3 international and 2 Greek conferences. I am a member of 20 international and 5 Greek Medical Associations and 2 International Colleges of Surgery.
In my research activity, I have participated in 141 clinical studies, most of which are international, and in 7 of them, I am the national coordinator, while 1 is funded by the European Union, and several experimental protocols, 3 of which I have carried out. I have a total of 191 publications in international journals of the ISI, all in PubMed. The impact factor of my articles is 535.231, the H-Index is 37, and my bibliographic references are 7219. I am a member of the editorial board of 38 journals and a special guest editor in 3 volumes of international journals, and I have been invited by 237 international journals to evaluate a total of 416 articles, and by 2 publishing houses to evaluate 1 book and 1 chapter of a book. From November 2014 to October 2015, I was a scientific collaborator of the D' Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, while from November 2015 to September 2022, I served as a university scholar of the same clinic for the conduct of teaching, research, scientific, and clinical work. I was elected to the position of Associate Professor of Surgery at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in January 2022, and in September 2022, I was integrated into the D' Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at the 'G. Papanikolaou' Hospital, where I participate fully in the teaching, research, scientific, and clinical work of the clinic until today.
